The Mini 50S is a different camera , and is probably the smallest instant film format ever made. For general photography that involves just the press of a button and getting a picture to put in an album the similar Instax 210 fits the role better; the pictures are wide format but about the size of the old Polaroids, it's cheaper at $60, and it takes 4AA batteries. The film for both cameras cost about the same, and you have 10 shots for each pack.
The Mini 50S is "compact" if it were a 120 film camera, which hardly anyone today has seen. The images are nominally "credit card" size, but that includes the border; the actual image is 1 7/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches--which actually is pretty close to 120 film. The is a very rectangular shape, and the camera is set up with portrait or landscape shutter buttons.
The 50S uses two lithium batteries which aren't as common as AA batteries, and it has a shiny finish that loves to attract fingerprints. It takes good photos, at least the same quality as the 210, and the flash times right.
Will you be happy with this? If you just want to take pictures of the kids and vacations and get an instant print then the 210 is a better and cheaper option. If you like something with a little kitsch and that can take wallet size pictures then you'll probably like the 50S.
